There are 2,545,855 child labourers in Peru which is about 34% of Peru’s population of children from the ages of 5- 17 years. Although the government of Peru has taken much action to decrease the level of child labour, a large number of child labourers still exist. In 2012, the Peruvian government supported many organizations and projects that lectured the worst forms of child labour. With his efforts, the Peruvian has strived to grant 1500 children with scholarships, education assistance, psychological help and other services of which in turn will reduce child labour. Other programs supported by the government will provide 25000 children with education and cash transfers in order to improve school attendance rates amongst child labourers. To educate people about this matter, the government has funded anti- poverty and education programs that teach citizens about the worst cases of child labour. As a result, Peru has much dependence on child labour because of the increasing rate of this situation. However, the government could improve its numbers by providing social programs and setting policies to decrease the number of child labourers.
These programs should be set to not only educate citizens of the vast number of child labourers but to decrease the number of child labourers as a whole. Many children have no choice but to work in the most dangerous situations such as mining. Although the government of Peru has supported the right causes, only a fraction of the child labourers have been accounted for.
